All technology-based organisations and institutions need to innovate and enhance their technological infrastructures to remain competitive. Innovation includes high degrees of risk, hence the need for the innovating institutes to be aware of the optimal techniques to perform invention and apply technology. The Centre of Excellence in Technology and Innovation Management (CETIM) was established in the Faculty of Management and Accounting (MA), Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU), to address the topics in the two crucial areas of "technology" and "innovation" and the best way to manage them. The centre was established owing to the national, regional, and international importance of the concepts. CETIM involves a team of distinguished experts and researchers in the fields of Management, Technology, and Innovation, among others, to study and put forward practical solutions for improving these areas of science.
The main activities of the CETIM are as follows:

1. Organising the country's scientific community in the area of technology management:
1-1. Improving the quality of teaching in the area of technology management and innovation;
1-2. Organising a programme for the quantitative expansion of this area of knowledge;
1-3. Strengthening the relationship between students' educational programmes and the applied fields, with a skills- and experience-oriented approach;
2. Strengthening related research programmes, especially by focusing on national issues:
2-1. Expanding continuous relationships between educational centres in this field and the executive bodies and economic enterprises;
2-2. Appropriate division of labour, based on the areas of expertise and interests for the parties involved, especially the professors and researchers in relevant universities and research centres/institutes;
3. Expanding international partnerships with scientific peers in other countries:
3-1. Expanding the scope of international activities by holding annual conferences in Technology Management and holding joint programmes in the field;
3-2. Developing purposeful communications and teacher-student exchanges;
3-3. Attracting supports from international organisations in the field of technology and innovation management, both local and abroad.

 

Structure of the CE

One of the priorities in the approval and establishment of the Centres of Excellence in Iran is its members' academic levels and backgrounds. In other words, a Centre of Excellence is approved by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT) if the team proposing the establishment of the CoE is composed of top experts and nationally or internationally distinguished professors in the relevant fields.

Moreover, the Centres of Excellence have to be interdisciplinary. Thus, the activities defined for and the members enlisted in these Centres are from different academic areas.
